Auto warranty

Auto warranty plan

Month-to-month coverage for mechanical breakdowns on your car, truck or SUV, after the factory warranty has run out. Quote it and enroll yourself online in a few minutes. No sales call, no appointment, and nobody phoning you afterwards.

We place these through Arkay. Like every plan of this kind it is a vehicle service contract, not an insurance policy, and it does not replace your auto insurance. Your auto policy pays when something happens to the vehicle. A service contract pays when something in it breaks on its own.

Who it is for

Drivers keeping a vehicle past its factory coverage, where one major repair would be a real problem.

  • Vehicles coming to the end of the manufacturer's warranty
  • Used vehicles bought with no factory coverage left
  • Households keeping a vehicle well past the loan payoff
  • Models with expensive transmissions, turbochargers or electronics
  • Drivers for Uber or Lyft, who need the Rideshare level specifically
  • Anyone handed a warranty mailer or robocall who wants it read by someone who works for them

Coverage levels

Five levels, and what to watch

Each level includes everything in the level before it, and only the components listed in the level you choose are covered. Summaries only — the contract wording governs.

Bronze

The powertrain. Engine including turbocharged and diesel engines, automatic and standard transmissions, and the front and rear wheel drive assemblies.

What to watchThis is the drivetrain and nothing else. Air conditioning, electronics, brakes and suspension are not in it.

Silver

Everything in Bronze, plus air conditioning: compressor, condenser, expansion valve, hoses, switches, and refrigerant where a covered part has leaked.

What to watchOne step up from powertrain. Steering, suspension, brakes and electrical are still not covered.

Gold

Everything in Silver, plus engine cooling, steering, suspension, brakes, electrical, hybrid and plug-in electric systems, on-board modules and sensors, factory entertainment and navigation, and chassis hardware.

What to watchThe broadest of the listed-component levels and where most people land. A part not named in the contract is still not covered.

Rideshare

The same component list as Gold, plus coverage for business use of the vehicle, which includes driving for Uber, Lyft and similar platforms.

What to watchThis is the only level that covers rideshare driving. On any other level, Platinum included, a claim on a vehicle used for business use is excluded outright.

Platinum

Exclusionary coverage: any part that breaks down during the term, except the parts the contract specifically excludes. The broadest protection available.

What to watchPlatinum does not include business use. If you drive for a rideshare platform, Rideshare is the level you need, not this one.

Your deductible

You choose it at enrollment and it applies per visit to approved and authorized covered repairs. It does not apply to the rental, trip interruption or roadside benefits.

What to watchPer visit, not per part, so one trip that fixes several covered parts carries one deductible. A higher deductible lowers the monthly payment.

Included

What comes with every auto plan

These carry their own limits, and your deductible does not apply to them.

Roadside and towing

Towing, jump start, flat tire change with an inflated spare, fluid delivery and lockout help, dispatched 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sign and drive up to $150 per incident, so there is nothing out of pocket below that.

What to watchThree uses in any 12 months, and one in any 72 hours. Anything above $150 is yours. Light vehicles under 9,500 lbs only, and not for accident damage or acts of nature.

Rental and alternative transport

Up to $50 a day for up to 5 days, $250 in total, while the vehicle is in for an overnight covered repair. A taxi, car service, rideshare, train or bus fare counts, not only a rental car.

What to watchReimbursement, not direct billing. You pay, then send the paid receipt and the repair order within 45 days. It does not pay for shop scheduling or parts delays.

Trip interruption

Lodging and meals when a covered breakdown strands you more than 100 miles from home, up to $150 a day and $450 per occurrence.

What to watchThe 100-mile distance is a hard condition, and the benefit ends the day the repair is completed. Receipts within 45 days.

Diagnostics

Reasonable diagnostic charges are paid when they lead to a covered repair, up to the time allowed in a national labor guide.

What to watchNot paid when the fault turns out not to be covered, or when it was obvious without diagnosis. A tear-down you authorise is yours if the failure is not covered.

Consequential damage

Brake pads, belts and hoses damaged as a direct result of a covered breakdown are replaced, including resurfacing brake rotors or drums.

What to watchThis is the only consequential damage covered. Knock-on damage to anything else is excluded.

The payout ceiling

Any one repair visit is capped at the vehicle's actual cash value, taken from the current NADA average trade-in value for your zip code.

What to watchEverything paid under the contract, claims and benefits together, is capped at the vehicle's actual cash value or $10,000, whichever is lower. On an older vehicle, actual cash value is the binding number.

Before you enroll

The conditions that decide whether a claim gets paid

None of this is unusual for a service contract. All of it is better known before you need it than after.

Authorization before any work

No claim is paid for a repair started without prior authorization. Call (844) 277-7376, get a claim number, and let the administrator authorize the repair before the shop begins. Claims line hours are Monday to Friday 7–5 and Saturday 8–3 Central; roadside is 24/7.

The first 45 days

Coverage is effective from day one, but a claim in the first 45 days triggers a mandatory third-party inspection, and you pay that fee, up to $150. It establishes that the fault was not pre-existing. Pre-existing conditions are never covered.

Maintenance records

Service the vehicle on the manufacturer's schedule and keep verifiable receipts, with the date and mileage. This is the single most common reason a claim is refused. Follow the owner's manual, not the sticker on the windshield.

Parts and labor rates

Replacement parts may be non-OEM, remanufactured or used, at the administrator's discretion. Parts are capped at manufacturer's suggested retail and labor at the Alldata or Mitchell guide.

The optional monthly connect fee

An add-on for integrated extras such as in-vehicle WiFi, satellite radio and OEM connected services. Entirely optional, and it sits on top of your base monthly payment.

Cancelling

Cancel at least 48 hours before your next scheduled monthly payment. Cancel inside the 7-day trial period with no claim filed and no benefit used, and you get 100% of what you have paid back.

What it does not cover

Named up front

  • Routine maintenance, and any wear that has not produced an actual failure
  • Damage from a collision, theft, flood, fire, hail, lightning, freezing or vandalism, which is what your auto policy is for
  • Pre-existing conditions, under any circumstance
  • Failures caused by missed maintenance, misuse, abuse, improper towing, or a shop's own bad work
  • Further damage from continuing to drive a vehicle that has already failed
  • Overheating, contamination, sludge, restricted oil flow or lack of coolant and lubricants
  • Business use on any level except Rideshare, and commercial use on every level
  • Racing, competitive driving, principally off-road use and rental use
  • Brake rotors and drums, exhaust and emission components, batteries and charging connectors, glass, bulbs, tires and wheels, clutch assemblies, airbags and seatbelts, paint, trim and body panels
  • Parts a shop recommends replacing alongside a covered repair when that part has not actually broken
  • Vehicles with a branded or salvaged title, grey-market vehicles, and trucks rated over one ton
  • Any claim where the odometer has been altered, disconnected or left inoperable

A service contract and an auto policy cover different things, and neither substitutes for the other. We are happy to review both together.

How to get it

Quote it yourself, or ask us first

  1. 01Run the quote onlineEnter the vehicle details and see the coverage levels and monthly payments, with no phone call and no appointment.
  2. 02Choose the level and deductibleMatch the level to how you actually use the vehicle. If you drive for a rideshare platform, that means Rideshare.
  3. 03Use the 7-day trialThe first 7 days are risk free. Read the contract properly in that window and cancel for a full refund if it is not right.
  4. 04Keep your receiptsService on schedule and keep the records. That is what makes a claim straightforward later.

Common questions

Is this insurance?

No. It is a vehicle service contract. The word warranty is used because that is what people call it, but it is not a manufacturer's warranty either, and it is not an insurance policy. It covers repairs after the manufacturer's warranty period expires, and it never replaces your auto insurance.

Do I have to talk to a salesperson?

No, and that is rather the point. You can quote and enroll yourself online in a few minutes. If you would rather someone read the contract with you first, call us and we will, with no obligation to buy it through us.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. It is month to month and renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel at least 48 hours before your next payment date. No multi-year commitment, no early termination penalty.

Is there a mileage limit?

Not once you are enrolled. Eligibility to enroll is generally up to 200,000 miles and up to 12 years of age at the time of sale, confirmed when you run the quote. After that you can keep driving.

Can I use my own mechanic?

Yes, at a franchised dealer or a licensed repair facility. Factory dealerships are the preferred option, licensed independents next. The shop must get authorization before starting work, which is the rule that matters most.

I drive for Uber. Which level do I need?

Rideshare. It carries the same component list as Gold and adds coverage for business use. No other level covers it, Platinum included, even though Platinum is otherwise the broadest.

Is there a cap on what it will pay?

Yes, and it is worth knowing. Any single repair visit is capped at the vehicle's actual cash value, and everything paid out across the contract is capped at the vehicle's actual cash value or $10,000, whichever is lower. Actual cash value comes from the current NADA average trade-in figure for your zip code.

What is the most common reason a claim is denied?

Maintenance that was missed, or done but undocumented. After that: starting a repair without authorization, pre-existing conditions, and parts that simply are not named in the level you chose.

I keep getting calls about my car's warranty. Are those legitimate?

Most are not, and the category has earned its reputation. Nobody should pressure you to decide on a phone call, and no legitimate seller needs your card details before you have read the contract. Send us whatever you were sent and we will read it with you, whether or not you buy anything from us.
